My grandma is 77 years old. She was born and raised in a small village called Dragus in Romania. She grew up in a time where there was no electricity, no internet, no telephones, no television, everyone grew their own vegetables, fruits and raised their own livestock. Everything was natural and organic and not because its healthy or the new trend but that is what they knew. When she was growing up most of the kids didn't go to high-school. They would get married young and help out on the farm. That was their lifestyle. The women would raise the kids, cook and clean while the men were out farming. Grandma says that life was very simple back then.
Grandma is probably the best cook I know. She is famous for her sarmale (caggabe rolls). They are amazing! Everyone who has had her cabbage rolls can't say enough good things about them. I wish I could cook like her. While she was here visiting, we cooked cabbage rolls, made home made bread, and a whole bunch of Romanian dishes. She is also really good at sewing. She always tells me that her dream was to be a seamstress. She loves it!
I love having her over. We love to walk around the mall and go to thrift stores. We watch lots of YouTube videos of Romanian folk music and dancing. She always tells me that its not easy being old. She has arthritis in her knees and hands. Whenever we would go out we would take our time walking and taking breaks sitting on the chairs and people watching. I really learned to be more patient and slow down a bit. I feel like the world we live in is moving so fast and sometimes we forget to slow down and enjoy the beauty of this planet and the people around us.
Love you grandma!
