Witch hazel is an astringent compound produced from the leaves and bark of the North American witch-hazel shrub. It is a component of many commercial healthcare products.
Back in the early days, people used witch hazel to treat swelling, inflammation and tumors.
Witch Hazel has amazing properties:
- fight acne
- nourishes dry skin
- reduces the puffy eye look
- relives discomfort from sunburns
- soothe and prevents razor burn
I personally use witch hazel as a toner for my face. I like to add a couple of drops of bergamot and lavender essential oils to a cotton pad with witch hazel after I wash my face. I have oily/sensitive skin and I have no problem using witch hazel.
Another great tip is to carry some witch hazel in a small glass spray bottle and have it on you as a nice skin refresher during the day.
The brand that I use is Thayers Witch Hazel with Rose Petals and I purchased mine from the health food store.
